Meet the Board of Directors

Throughout its existence, PAAWBAC has been run by an all-volunteer Board of Directors, without paid staff. Dozens of API women have served on the PAAWBAC Board over the years, dedicating countless hours of time to fulfill PAAWBAC’s mission.

  • Yuri Futamura

Yuri is Chief Operating Officer of Tamalpais Trust, a small charitable trust dedicated to funding Indigenous-led organizations around the world. She has served in many roles over twenty years in philanthropy, supporting resilient communities from West Africa to the Arctic. Yuri was honored to receive a Monarch Award from PAAWBAC in 2008 for her volunteer and board leadership with Asian Women’s Shelter. Yuri was born in Japan and immigrated to the US at the age of seven. She is bilingual and bicultural and is raising her two young daughters to be the same.

  • Mimi Kwan

Mimi is VP Community Engagement at ABC7 Bay Area (KGO-TV), the news organization in the 9-county San Francisco region providing the latest local, weather and national top stories and breaking news. She works with community organizations and representatives to support initiatives important to celebrating community and building a better Bay Area. Mimi was honored with an inaugural PAAWBAC Monarch Award and has volunteered on the boards of Asian Women's Shelter and the former Oakland Asian Students Educational Services. Most recently, she has lived in San Francisco and Contra Costa counties with her spouse and two children.

  • Katherine Jan Lee

Kathy was born and raised in San Francisco and is a daughter of founding PAAWBAC member Carole Jan Lee. She has inherited her mother’s dedication to community concerns and to PAAWBAC in particular, having served on the Board since the 1990’s. Kathy did take a couple breaks when her two daughters were born. She recently retired after nearly 33 years with the City of Berkeley in various positions, the last as Interim Director of Police Accountability.

  • Theresa Lee

Theresa was born in San Francisco and raised by her immigrant parents. She has 30 years of public and private experience; most recently as the Deputy Airport Director for Administration and Technology at SFO, where she increased women and minority representation through innovative outreach, internships and mentoring. She hopes to help PAAWBAC develop new programs for women pursuing their professional and personal interests.

  • Elsie Lum

Elsie Lum has been an advocate for the Asian Pacific Islander community as a therapist, counselor, mentor, advocate, and educator for the past 30+ years throughout the San Francisco Bay Area. More recently, as the Director of Training at Alameda County, she developed leadership and training programs, with a focus on self-awareness and workplace skills. Born of immigrant parents and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii, she has experienced how respect for diversity contributes to a more productive society. Her dynamic and diverse background fuels her passion to develop and support API women’s leadership potential through mentoring and coaching so they can “be the best they can be”.

  • Yenyy Sihapanya

Born in Laos, Yenyy arrived in San Francisco as a refugee with her family at the age of 10. This experience has instilled in her a strong commitment to serving the underserved and improving the lives of those in our community. As the Director of Medical Staff Administration at Dignity Health's Saint Francis Memorial Hospital, Yenyy has over 20 years of experience in healthcare administration and works closely with the medical staff to prioritize quality and compassionate patient care. She is honored to be part of PAAWBAC and dedicated to supporting Asian Pacific Islander women in their journey.

  • Brittany Wong

Brittany Wong has been involved with PAAWBAC from a young age, both as a volunteer and an attendee. Her dedication to the community peaked during her time at San Francisco State University where she presented solutions to build the visibility, skills, and strength of young Bay Area API Women. She currently is a Coordinator in Administration and Accounting for a Family Office in the Financial District. Alongside PAAWBAC, Brittany looks forward to empowering and engaging the young women in our community.
