W Challenge And Artists' Talk

August 24th, 2020

PAAWBAC announces two exciting events happening this week!

Celebrate Women's Equality Day on Wednesday, August 26, at noon. This year marks the 100th Anniversary of the adoption of the 19th Amendment, extending the right to vote to women in the United States. However, equal voting rights were not granted for all women, and the fight to vote continues today. The 2020 W Challenge aims to raise women's voices to expand our representation.

Women's Equality Day will feature a virtual event with Assessor Carmen Chu (2012 PAAWBAC Monarch Awardee) and Mayor London Breed in conversation on women leadership, racial equity and women’s voting power. Register here now for the August 26 event.

The W Challenge this year will be a 10-week social media campaign to highlight 100 women leaders from the past 100 years. Learn more at wchallenge.org.

PAAWBAC is proud to be a partner organization of the 2020 W Challenge.

Saturday, August 29, 1:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

This is a gathering to celebrate and witness the artistic healing journeys of seven women artists who participated in an eight-month artistic residency with A PLACE OF HER OWN.

A PLACE OF HER OWN (PLACE) is an art making-based series of workshops, lectures, and artists panel discussions. It provides a growing list of experiential, innovative healing projects and art exhibitions. Offering practical tools to explore, navigate and release unwanted ancestral patterns, PLACE asks women to define aspirations, and self-worth, by creating intuitive art with found objects. No art experience is necessary. The final artworks are answers to the question:

“If you had a place of your own, what would it be?”

The 2020 residency was sponsored in part by PAAWBAC through scholarships for several of the artists.
