CATALYST FUND
To support the aspirations of Asian Pacific women with educational
scholarships, PAAWBAC established its Education Fund in 1983
to assist Asian Pacific women entering non-traditional fields
of study or re-entering academic, vocational, or other skills-development
training programs. As part of a proactive move toward the
new millennium, the Education Fund was reformulated as the
Catalyst Fund.
The thrust of the Catalyst Fund is to initiate or sustain
positive individual or community changes over time by providing
educational support through community programs and individual
scholarships. Target groups are young girls and women (ages
11-21), "at-risk" teens, refugee/immigrant women
and women in transition.
Priority areas are leadership development, self-esteem, understanding
self-image, and self-sufficiency. Past Catalyst Fund recipients
include the Donaldina Cameron House, Asian Immigrant Women
Advocates, and the Lao Iu Mien Culture Association.
