District 4 – Sunset/Parkside from September 2007 to February 2013

Supervisor Carmen Chu was appointed to the S.F. Currently, she serves as Chair of the Budget & Finance Committee.  As the second Asian female to ever serve in that capacity, Carmen works to balance the budget for the City.

Carmen comes with a strong financial background. Under her leadership as the Deputy Budget Director at the Mayor’s Office of Public Policy & Finance, San Francisco won the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award in 2006-07 from the Government Finance Officers Association. She has been a consultant on municipal finance of large public works projects and debt management.

From a humble immigrant background, Carmen grew up in a family restaurant in East L.A., working many long hours alongside her parents. Her desire to “make a difference” was ignited when her parents were held up at gunpoint as their car was stolen during the L.A. riots. She is a major force in government and public policy, with a public policy education, earning her Bachelor’s degree from Occidental College and a Master’s degree from Goldman School of Public Policy at U.C. Berkeley.
